US Budget Spend Visualisation

From the people at deviantArt, a very nice visualisation of the spending of the US government 2004 budget. It'd be interesting to compare this to with visualisations Ireland or the Nordic countries, given the near 50/50 spend in the US on defense versus everything else.

  • everything else that is classed as "discretionary" - discretionary spending only comprises approximately one third of the federal budget. Also, I presume the various states have their own budgets too. Military spending as a percentage of GDP might be more representative - US (4.06), Ireland (0.90), Sweden (1.50), Finland (2.00)

Or is this just an exercise in statistics?

  • I think it is a nice visualisation, maybe Military GDP versus Social spending then should be the next one as that could be interesting too or you could have fun checking these counters.
